Hamilton Electric Savitar 14K Yellow Gold Watch
Offered is this FULLY SERVICED (ultrasonic wash, rinse, and lubrication) Hamilton Electric 14K Savitar watch. Pictured in René Rondeau's book "The Watch Of The Future" on page 154, it was released in June of 1961, with an original price of $175. It is signed on the dial, case, movement, and crown. It runs great and keeps time to well under 30 seconds variation per day and has a brand new battery just installed. The hack function works properly, and the watch starts right up each time the crown is pushed in from the setting position to the running position.
The Savitar was the feature watch for the introduction of the new improved 505 movement. It has a triangular shape similar to the Ventura and Pacer (with the exception of the point being at the 3 o'clock position rather than the 9 o'clock position), but with a round dial. This may have been an attempt at a compromise to appeal to the conservative Hamilton buyer without abandoning the Richard Arbib inspired styling of the Electric series. Sales were disappointing, however, so the production of the Savitar was very low, with an estimated 2,700 pieces, making this is a rare find today. As a plus, it has had a BRAND NEW OLD STOCK D-PIN installed in the balance, so it will run virtually as it did from the factory.
