Hamilton Electric Regulus II Watch

$895

Offered is this FULLY SERVICED (ultrasonic wash, rinse, and lubrication) Hamilton Electric Regulus II watch. Pictured in René Rondeau's book "The Watch Of The Future" on page 187, it was released in April of 1962 with an original price of $89.50. It is signed on the dial, case, movement, and crown. It runs great and keeps time to well under 30 seconds variation per day and has a brand new battery just installed. The hack function works properly, and the watch starts right up each time the crown is pushed in from the setting position to the running position. As a plus, it has had a NEW OLD STOCK D-PIN installed in the balance, so it will run virtually as it did from the factory.

The Regulus II shares its name with the original all stainless steel Regulus which had a "D" shaped case. The Regulus II has a round case (larger than most Hamilton Electrics) and a really striking dial with an intricate design of the markers.

What really makes the Regulus II interesting is that the case was Swiss Made. I am sure this is the correct case for this watch. I asked René Rondeau for his opinion. He was not sure, but had serviced four Regulus II's over the years. The case numbers on them were 105320, 105691, 106754, and 106820.  This corresponds to the case number on this particular model, 105508. Most case numbers in the electric series begin with a letter, and the fact that all of these serial numbers have no letters and that they fall into a small range indicates that this is the correct case for this model. The other factor making it very likely that this is the proper case is the crown at the 4 o'clock position. Few watch cases were made in this configuration. Another very interesting finding is that the watch has a dedication on the back from 1974. This was long after the Hamilton Electric series was discontinued, indicating it was likely one of the last in the series, and possibly held in stock by a store until purchase in the mid 1970's. As a plus, it has had a NEW OLD STOCK D-PIN installed in the balance, so it will run virtually as it did from the factory.
