Hamilton Electric Converta II
Offered is this FULLY SERVICED (ultrasonic wash, rinse, and lubrication) Hamilton Electric Stainless Converta II watch. Pictured in René Rondeau's book "The Watch Of The Future" on page 178, it was released in August of 1958 with original price of $130 with metal band and $125 with leather strap.
The Converta II is distinguished by its 14K solid yellow gold bezel and is quite scarce. It's also unique in that it was given as an employee award watch in 1963 after Converta production had ceased. It may explain why it features the 505 movement which was introduced in 1961. Hamilton may have furnished this watch to GM from remaining Converta inventory and installed a 505 movement in the watch since production of the 500 and 500A had ceased.
It is signed on the dial, case, movement, and crown. It runs great and keeps time to well under 30 seconds variation per day. It has a brand new battery just installed. The hack function works properly, and the watch starts right up each time the crown is pushed in from the setting position to the running position. As a plus, it has had a BRAND NEW OLD STOCK D-PIN installed in the balance, so it will run virtually as it did from the factory.
