Hamilton Chronograph Valjoux 7733 British Royal Navy Pilot's Asymmetric Watch
Offered is this stunning 1970 First Year Issue Hamilton Royal Navy Pilot's Asymmetric Chronograph. These watches are often referred to as RAF (Royal Air Force) watches, since they were designed for pilots. Many were issued to Pilots in the Royal Navy as well, which can be determined by the case back markings. Serial numbers beginning with 6BB were issued to the Royal Air Force, and serial numbers beginning with 0552 were issued to the Royal Navy. The 924-3306 portion of the serial number signifies the type of watch and is identical on all examples, the 370 signifies the specific serial number of this watch, and the 70 signifies the year of issue as 1970. Valjoux 7733 movements were used in all examples, and production by Hamilton began in 1970, so this is a first year example. The case is broader on the right, meant to protect the chronograph pushers, giving the watch added durability and its asymmetry. The "Broad Arrow" on both the dial and case back signify that it is property of "Her Majesty's Service." The circled "T" on the dial delineates the luminous material as Tritium, which is used on the 12, 6, and the dots at each hour marker. The spring bars were welded in place on all examples for added security, making a Nato type strap necessary. It winds, sets, and runs great. It keeps excellent time, and the chronograph feature works flawlessly.
