Hamilton-Ricoh Electric 555E Asymmetric Watch

$695

Offered is this FULLY SERVICED (ultrasonic wash, rinse, and lubrication) Hamilton-Ricoh Electric watch. Pictured in René Rondeau's book "The Watch Of The Future" on page 98, it was released as a joint venture in 1962. It is signed on the dial, case, movement, and crown. It runs great and keeps time to well under 30 seconds variation per day and has a brand new battery just installed. The hack function works properly, and the watch starts right up each time the crown is pushed in from the setting position to the running position. It has just had a NEW OLD STOCK D-PIN installed in the balance, so it will run virtually as it did from the factory.

In 1962 Hamilton created a joint venture with Japanese Ricoh, the same company that makes copiers and cameras. They were trying to take advantage of the blossoming Japanese economy. The movements were based on the Vantage 130E movement. They share many of the parts of the Hamilton 505 and were manufactured in Hamilton's plant in Lancaster, PA. They were marketed exclusively in the Asian market, so few are found here today. The case is a larger size than the typical Hamilton Electric, measuring 37 mm in width and 42mm lug to lug. This is a great example, looking almost mint. It is a very rare find that would make a great addition to a Hamilton Electric collection.
